Giorgio Armani has lost none of his energy and vision, even at 75 years of age this icon of fashion takes some keeping up with
Armani poroduced two razor sharp shows last weekend in Milan, ending the runway show of his junior label Emporio Armani on Sunday, June 20, using ten models in all leather, military outfits, a set of sado-masochistic looks he dreamed up for a recent video of Lady Gaga.
"We collaborated with her and enjoyed the experience. So, I thought it would pretty to pay a little homage at the finale," Armani was quoted as saying.
But it was his mens show that provided the most groundbreaking fashion moment,on the Tuesday, where he took plenty of unexpected risks with his classic tailoring, most of which proved to be a winning formula.
Armani once again experimented with silhouette again this season with a new double breasted jacket, taut at the shoulders but bias cut and chopped away at the front. They looked light, probably not as easy to wear as his classic looks, but certainly offered stylish men something new and clever to put in their wardrobes.
The designer was as he said looking for 'non-conformity' obviously some of the Lady Gaga influence from her video of "Alejandro."must have rubbed off.
Armani also presented some feather-light leather looks often injected with dashes of shiny lemon or lime into many did not always work.
Armani really hit his stride at the finale, where his series of putty gray cotton suits and charming technically finished sky blue jackets would make most men look sharp.
Seersucker was greatly in evidence at Milan and Armani was not going to be left out, producing a series of seersucker jackets, mainly paired with gingham pants, in what he called "an ironic take on the traditional dandy, to close his show and effectively the four-day Milan season.
