Whip It

Whip It

Ellen Page stars as indie-rock loving Bliss Cavendar in coming-of-age movie Whip It, out now on DVD & Blu-ray.

Locked in a battle of wills with her mother who is bringing her up to become a beauty queen and desperate to find her real place in the world, Bliss discovers a local female roller-derby league and soon swaps the heels for wheels!

Bliss’s cute indie look is perfect for relaxed summer BBQs and will easily take you through to autumn, with all those camping trips, gigs and festivals in between. Who knows, you might even bag yourself a gorgeous rocker too!

Make-up

Bliss wears minimal make-up for a natural, glowing look - with no fake tan or bronzer in sight! You can re-create this by using a powder foundation to even out skintone for a light, dewy finish, adding a touch of rose-coloured blusher for a natural flush and a nude pink lipstain that won’t budge when kissing that cute guitarist.

The eyes are slightly more rock-chick and can be achieved by blending a matt grey eyeshadow over the eyelid and into the sockets, sweeping a little under the lower lashes.

Then line the upper eyelid with black kohl, keeping as close to the lash line as possible, and line the inner rims. Try not to be too heavy-handed, you’re aiming for sexy eyes not panda eyes!

Hair

The natural, wavy look is ideal for looking pretty but not too try-hard and suits Bliss’s care-free attitude. If your hair is already wavy then this look is really easy to achieve, simply apply mousse to freshly-washed hair and scrunch dry using a low heat setting on your hairdryer.

For those with poker straight locks it takes a little more preparation, twist clean damp hair into a bun before you go to sleep and when you wake up spritz with a shine spray and blast with a hairdryer while separating the waves with your fingers - do not brush!

This is a great way to give hair a break from heat styling and gives fine hair luscious volume.

For those with curly locks, apply serum to damp hair, tie into plaits before you go to bed and wake up with lovely loose waves.

Clothes

Retro band t-shirts are really popular whatever the season, with loads of celebs rocking the look. Check out TruffleShuffle for a brilliant selection, from cult 80’s TV shows to iconic bands.

Why not borrow one from the guy in your life or buy a bigger size for a more laid-back look?

A skater skirt or denim mini looks great combined with a retro tee and means you still look cute and feminine.

Add leggings for extra warmth and to protect your knees from bumps and grazes when you get those skates on! Then add lace-up biker boots - ideal for the unpredictable British weather.

Finally accessorise with a casio-style watch, canvas tote bag and geek chic specs.
