This week is the fifth year anniversary of The Campaign for Wool, a coalition of industry groups convened by the HRH The Prince of Wales, to educate the consumers about the benefits of choosing wool and highlight it's premium quality.

Do you know how to look after your wool pieces?

Do you know how to look after your wool pieces?

Wardrobe staples should make up the core of our fashion looks and wool is the perfect example of this, it never goes out of style and lasts years if you look after it properly.

Marks & Spencer have once again announced their allegiance with this campaign and Head of Design, Queralt Ferrer says: " We already use more wool across our clothing collections than anyone else on the UK high street and the addition of the Best of British collection is an extension of that commitment to British craftsmanship."

British heritage remains at the forefront of the new season with wool playing a key part in the stylish designs. M&S uses more wool across clothing than any other UK high street retailer and with a rich history in wool manufacturing and innovation, M&S remains committed to working with one of the fashion industry's most sustainable and versatile fabrics.

Here we have some essential tips on taking care of your woollen items:

  1. Always follow the washing instructions on the label - this may sound obvious but always check
  2. Cleaning is the most important factor when it comes to preserving wool - dirt and smells can stick to wool therefore it's important to properly clean garments however you only need to wash a wool sweater once or twice a season
  3. Some wool is washable as it might have been treated to prevent shrinking but if not then hand wash or use the handy steamer which refreshes clothes and eliminates odours with no contact at all, providing a safe way to get your favourite woollen jumper fresh for the new season
  4. To store, ensure the wool items are kept in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight - the sun can cause colours to fade
  5. Keep items fresh from moths by brushing garments weekly and taking it out of the wardrobe and wearing in fresh air
  6. Never hang a wool sweater as it will stretch out of shape - fold away
