Yasmin Le Bon shares her style secrets she learnt over the years

Yasmin Le Bon has recently been announced as the new face of the Speedo Sculpture 2014 swimwear collection and now she’s sharing her industry secrets to help women feel confident in their swimwear this summer.

The guide has been launched to help tackle the anxieties many women experience and the fear of the walk from the changing room to the pool, or the towel to the sea.

With more than thirty years of experience behind her, Yasmin has worked exclusively with Speedo to develop the handbook to help women overcome seven issues and feel more confident and comfortable in their swimwear.

Yasmin, who turns 50 this year, comments, “After spending 33 years on the modelling circuit I have heard all of the tricks of the trade. The best advice I’ve received on looking your best in a swimsuit, is to wear it with confidence and a smile; it instantly changes your appearance.”

Yasmin advises on these seven areas in the handbook:

  1. Sitting down – The Twist and Point

Twisting the upper body around at the waist is a great way to make it appear smaller and instantly helps you to lose inches. Whilst sitting down, putting one leg stretched out in front of the other with toes pointed helps to elongate the leg.

Swimwear tip: Rouching and wrap effects work well on apple figures to give definition around the waist.

  1. Lying down – The Knee Lift

When lying on your back, bringing up your knees up to lift the thighs can help to avoid the effect of them feeling flattened against the poolside or lounger and gives a three dimensional and flattering shape. Arching the back slightly can also help if you’re self-conscious about your stomach or bottom.

Swimsuit tip: Bright colours looks great with a tan so be bold and embrace them.

  1. Walking – A Proud Posture

When walking or standing adopting a strong posture is the key to radiating confidence. If you imagine you are trying to hold something between your shoulder blades it will push your shoulders down and backwards slightly to give a naturally proud posture.

Swimsuit tip: Swimsuits with rouching or ruffle designs are good for boyish figures to add curves.

  1. Posing – Head Held High

If you’re posing for photos and not feeling the most confident is can be tempting to look down and try to hide. Lifting the head away from the best is the best way to achieve a long elegant neck and avoid creating a double chin.

Swimsuit tip: V-necked swimsuits are good for smaller chests to highlight cleavage.

  1. The Exit – Pause and Prepare

Before getting out of the pool it’s a good idea to take a moment to pause and prepare for your exit. You can sweep your hair to one side if you need to, check your swimsuit is in place and ensure you’re feeling confident.

Swimsuit tip: Different textures on swimwear can create illusions to give you the desired shape you want.

  1. Day to Evening – Add Accessories

If you want to head straight from the pool to the bar, heeled or wedged sandals can add an instant bit of glamour without making you feel overdressed. Throwing on a kimono, kaftan, sarong or pair of shorts will help you to dress any areas you’re worried about.

Large accessories like a hat or beach bag are a good addition to focus the eye away from the body if you’re feeling self-conscious.

Swimsuit tip: Halter-neck swimming costumes are good for fuller figures and broad shoulders to slim and lengthen.

  1. Nature’s Natural Accessory

The best way to give yourself a confidence boost is to smile and enjoy yourself.

Sally Polak, Marketing Manager for Speedo UK, comments: “We understand the approach of summer can give rise to body confidence issues amongst many women, which is why we’re working with Yasmin to help tackle these anxieties. We have drawn on our 80 plus years of swimwear heritage to create body-sculpting swimwear and now we’re using that expertise to create this helpful guide.”

The Speedo Sculpture range features all-over body shaping, tummy control and bust support with fresh new styles to help create a desirable hourglass silhouette. Each style is quality-tested in the pool for up to forty hours and includes useful features such as adjustable, non-slip straps and chlorine-resistant Xtra Life LYCRA, which lasts up to ten times longer than conventional fabrics.
