It seems that uniforms are still a desirable trait that women look for in a partner. Every woman has dreamed of being swept off their feet by a strapping man in uniform whilst 'up where we belong' blares out in the background.

With this in mind Clothes2order have commissioned a survey to see what the nations favourite uniform was, and for women it's the forces and public services that come out tops.

Women's favourite Uniforms

1. Firefighter (41.69%)

2. Navy (34.84%)

3. Police (31.34%)

3. Army (31.34%)

4. Royal Guard (6.05%)

With films like 'An Officer and a Gentleman' women have been giving certain expectations of men in uniform and these expectations seem to echo our hope of what we look for in a man. All these favourite uniforms are associated with bravery and courage and one woman said this is the exact reason she favours the firefighter uniform. The police uniform scores high because "it comes with respect, dignity and pride - being a policeman is one of the noblest professions."

Our attraction to men in uniform still is relevant as this survey proves, we are guided by people's perceptions of what to look for in the perfect partner and we feel it is more highly regarded to have a uniformed partner on our arm than perhaps a business man who are represented often as too ambitious and sly.

Clothes2order have also found out what the least attractive uniforms are:

Women say No to…

1. Bee Keeper (1.90%)

2. Priest/Vicar (2.19%)

3. Lollypop man (2.33%)

4. Beautician (3.50%)

5. Life Model (4.37%)

It's a very diverse list and not necessarily what you expect however if we look at the media and its representations of the perfect man, none of these uniforms are worn. In fact, beekeepers and priests are usually represented as an older man compared to a handsome young officer.

Simon Turner, Marketing Director of Manchester based supplier of print and embroidered clothing said Clothes2order have noticed an upward trend in companies making their uniforms stand out.

Commenting on the survey findings, he also adds: "The results have shown people are drawn to distinctive looks when it comes to uniform. The comments from respondents showed the influence a uniform can have on the opinion of others about the wearer, with both men and women opting for some of the most highly regarded professions as their top choice of uniforms for their partner to wear"
