Up 3D maybe a unlikely taker for the most iconic film of the year as it is animated, but we couldn"t resists its charm, and the fact it surpassed our expectations and then some.
Up saw the return of Disney/Pixar to the big screen, and opens with a young boy Carl Fredrickson ( Edward Asner ) in love with the sense of adventure and his explorer hero Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer)

Carl then meets a like minded young girl named Ellie and they become inseparable and fall in love.
They both dream of visiting the Lost Land in South America but when Ellie passes away 78-year-old Carl takes matters in his own hands and ties a million helium balloons to his house and takes off to the lost land.
However things don"t go to plan as a stowaway is on board, Russell (Jordan Nagai) a wilderness explorer becomes a part of the trip and provides the film with and upbeat angle.
Up like any Disney/Pixar film has hidden adult messages in that children won"t necessary pick up on.
Up looks into the fact that heroes aren"t necessarily how they are portrayed in the media and the true pain of losing a loved one.
It was the first animated film to open Cannes Film Festival this year and dares to be different risking it all to alienate children by containing deep and meaningful messages of love, sorrow and friendship.
The films visual effects are eye catching and are brought out by using 3D, Up displays Disney Pixar at their best.
