Muse Donate Equipment to University

British rockers Muse have donated $22,500 (£15,000)-worth of musicalequipment to a university in their native Devon, England.

The stars all went to school in the region in the south-west of Englandand they were handed honorary doctorates of arts by officials at Plymouth University in 2008.

They have now decided to help boost the music course at the institutionby handing over amplifiers, microphones and a synthesiser, while their donation will also fund prizes for innovative students over the next threeyears.

Professor David Coslett, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, tells the BBC, "(This will provide) exciting opportunities for our students to experience the kind of industry-standard equipment very few universities have accessto. We are proud to be associated with the band, given their significantcontribution to contemporary popular music and their links to the south-west and the university".

A spokesman for Muse says, "(They are) delighted to provide this equipment and hope it will inspire students to go on and create great music foryears to come".
