Jeff Golub has suddenly lost his sight.

Rod Stewart's longtime former guitarist Jeff Golub has suddenly gone blind.

The rocker had been diagnosed with a collapsed optic nerve in one eye and was battling to get his sight back and return to the stage when his "good eye" went.

Golub, who was a regular in Stewart's band from 1988 to 1995, tells the Globe, "It's just some random thing."

He's determined to do what he can to regain his sight: "God willing, I have every intention of playing guitar forever and a day...

"I have an eight-year-old and 10-year-old son. I can't really let my guard down. They don't need to see me cancelling gigs and wallowing in self-pity."
