Supermarket chain Asda is about to branch out yet again as it allows customers to add a House to their Asda shopping list, in a new incentive for the Store.

Customers will be allowed to browse in-store, touch screen terminals for the home of their dreams and leave their details for the agent to contact them. Potential buyers will then be directed to a named contact that will help them to arrange viewings and make the purchase.

Sellers will be offered a lower fee than many estate agencies offer, as well as a free HIP, which will become compulsory in July. The HIP will contain a property survey as well as proof of ownership and local authority search results.

It's estimated that the cost of preparing an HIP will be between £600 and £1,000.

The scheme is to be trialled in 10 Supermarkets in the Sunderland area, from July, this year. If it's successful, it's likely to be rolled out into the rest of the UK towards the end of this year.

Gev Lynott, Asda's financial services director said: "For years, postcards on our community boards have helped customers rent their perfect pad - now we're going to help them buy it,"
