It comes as no surprise to those who take pleasure in lighting up, that smoking costs a fair packet.

But the reality is that it costs the average smoker almost £100'000 over the course of their life.

The total figure of £91'832, is based on the average smoker - who puffs thier way through 15 or the little white sticks every day.

That equates to a rather nice home in spain - with money left over to buy the Kids one, too. Or a wedding in Vegas - with you paying for the guests flights, It'd fund a good few season tickets for your local team. Or, if you were to get together with your partner, you could have a Lamborghini Murceilago.

Mr. Willmore, a spokesman for Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) said: “This survey shows just how wasteful and addictive smoking is. Not only could it kill you but it costs you enormous amounts of money to feed the habit,”

Clerical Medical Chief John Hiew said: “We all know about the health problems associated with smoking but we wanted to find the wealth implications associated with the habit. It’s a staggering amount of money British smokers spend.”

He added:” If people put the money they spend on cigarettes into a savings plan they would probably live longer and could have an extra income of thousands of pounds a year.”
