In Preparing for a holiday, one of the most exciting parts is changing your english money to Euros, Dollars, or some other colourful and exciting currency, but it seems that when we return, we don't want to change it back.
Despite the souvenir dash on the last day of a holiday, it seems biritish holidaymakers are still bringing and average of £16 home, in foreign currency, that will never be changed back. With 80% of holidaymakers bringing money back with them, this amounts to nearly £1 billion, according to Marks and Spencer travel money.
The research also found that more than a quarter (28%) came home with as much as £50 in their bum bag, as well as a lobster tan.
David Mackay, commercial director at M&S Money said:
"If they changed it back rather than forgetting about it, they could put the money towards a deposit on their next holiday or a short break,"
61% of those who brought money back realld did intend to use it again or change it back, but a third admitted that it would probably lie about in a drawer, untouched for years.
"Holding on to euros is understandable, but the 42 per cent who holiday outside the euro zone would be better off changing it back to sterling," Mr Mackay advised.
