Femalefirst Motorsport roundup

20th September

Missed a race? Catch up with the weeks events in Formula one, Rallying and British Superbikes, here.

Formula one
It would have been difficult to miss the events going on behind the scenes in F1, this week, with one of the biggest stories in F1 coming to a head, as Jenson Button manages to cut a deal to stay at BAR for the coming season.

It's believed that Button was finally released from his contract with Williams by offering around £20 million to the team.
The driver insists that he is committed to staying at BAR Honda and believes that staying with his team will give him the best chance at the title.
However, Williams chief, Sir Frank Williams said that the driver would be held to his word

It also looks as though BAR are gearing up for the driver leaving as they look to new talent. The team have signed South Africa's Alan van der Merwe and Brazillian Danilo Dirani to their driver development programme.
The drivers will train alongside Brits Adam Carroll and James Rossiter, who both tested for BAR last week, as part of the same programme.

BMW is working on furnishing the Sauber team with new Drivers as they gear up to enter the 2006 season and it's emerged that the new signing for the team will be Williams' Nick Heidfeld.
The driver was due to be dropped by Williams as Jenson Button was expected to take his place at the beginning of next season. He's currently recovering from a shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Upstairs, a change in regulations for 2006 means that those 3litre V10 engines will have to be replaced by 2.4litre V8s. McLaren were testing theirs at Silverstone, last week.
Pedro de la Rosa was the man at the wheel of the interim MP4-20B, a modified version of the team’s 2005 race car specially adjusted to fit the new Mercedes engine.
He said: "The last two days of testing have gone well and we are on schedule with the development programme, There is obviously a big difference in power between the Mercedes-Benz V10 and the V8, and therefore I had to adjust my driving style.

". It is positive that we were testing with the new engine without problems and long delays. During this test we have also been looking at the difference in vibration between the Mercedes-Benz V10 and V8 engines; however we didn't find anything we had not expected."

More rule changes are in the works for 2008, as the FIA reviews draft changes to the regulations, which will eliminate unnecessary expenditure.

Formula one is gearing up for the Brazillian Grand Prix, this weekend. The Interlagos circuit is probably one of formula one's most atmospheric circuits, At little worn around the edges, perhaps, but with it's notorious bumps and anti-clockwise lap, it promises to really test the drivers.

Rallying
Rally GB came to a tragic end, on Sunday, as Peugeot Co-Driver Michael park was killed as a result of an accident on the Margam Park stage. He was Co driver to Markko Martin, who escaped the crash uninjured.

The driver went off the road in the first run of the Margram park stage. The car reportedly hit a tree on the Co-Drivers side. the rest of the Rally was cancelled and there were no celebrations at the finish.

Peugeot team mate Gronholm pulled out of the rally as a mark of respect for the Co-Driver.
On the Road leader, Loeb also forfeited the rally as a mark of respect for Park, opting to check on late and take a two minute time penalty.

This left Subaru's Petter Soldberg to be declared the winner of the rally, for ten points, moving him up to second place in the driver standings.

Colin McRae's first outing in WRC since 2000 seemed to go well, gaining him 2 points, despite some gearbox problems. This leaves him 18th in the Driver stangs
