We heard recently of a dealership offering ‘buy one get one free’ cars in a desperate bid to shift the large lumps of metal.

Now Motorpoint is giving its customers the chance to drive away in a family car for less than a price of a large cappuccino at Starbucks.

The UK’s car supermarket has built an enviable reputation over the last decade for the incredible savings it is able to offer its customers on thousands of new and nearly new cars.

But now Motorpoint is taking this one stage further and giving its customers the chance to literally drive away in a nearly new family car for the cost of a coffee – in an effort to make motoring as affordable as possible during the credit crunch.

Motorpoint is offering the best-selling Vauxhall Vectra 1.8i VVT Life for only £2.60 a day - less than a large cappuccino at Starbucks, which is currently £2.75.

Motorpoint has seen a huge upsurge in demand for nearly new cars across its sites in the UK in recent months, as customers look to make their finances go further. The UK’s leading car supermarket group is currently offering savings of over £10,500 on nearly new models (compared with an equivalent new model).

It just shows that despite the credit crunch, if you have a spare bob or two floating around, this is a blinding time to buy anything
