Peugeot 208

Peugeot 208

The 208 embodies the principles of agility and efficiency. The initial technical choices make it a vehicle which is light (114kg lighter on average compared to the 207, and as much as 173kg! with a range which starts at 975kg), aerodynamic (Cd of 0.29, CdA of 0.61), and very compact (-7cm in length, -1cm in height).

These benefits are accentuated by noticeably increased occupant space, with more room in the rear seats (+5cm at the knees) and a more generous boot (+15dm3 in volume), proof of optimised architectural performance.

A reduced front overhang (-6 cm compared to the 207) and a shorter rear overhang (-1cm) along with the reduced weight of the vehicle, directly benefit improved proportions, agility and everyday practicality (parking, manoeuvres, etc.)

To maximise reduction in the weight of the vehicle, a true 'hunt to eliminate excess weight' took place to create, a 'virtuous spiral', favouring fuel consumption, passive safety and the dynamic performance of the vehicle.

Each component designed, each technique used, has been considered with this in mind: aluminium front beam-absorber, size of the subframe, laser welding on the roof, extensive use of Very High Strength Steel (VHSS) and Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) panels, soundproofing of the engine at source, etc. All contribute to the average reduction of 114kg verses the 207.

173kg less with the entry level petrol engine with comparable power; in short, a feat which allows the 208 to start from a weight of 975kg.

- Style And Presence

Agility, purity and efficiency are the bywords that guided the design of 208.

The contours of the 208 are free-flowing, without interruption or embellishment, from the end of the bonnet to the boot. From the outset, no unnecessary elements or add-ons were permitted, flush-fitting surfaces and precise clearances demonstrating optimal build quality.

The free-flowing style also optimises the aerodynamics and weight of 208, ensuring optimal environmental performance.

Front

The front of 208 demonstrates the development of Peugeot’s new styling direction. The grille appears to detach itself in a ‘floating’ style. Its chrome surround expresses the idea of environmental efficiency. Its feline expression is more sporty, rich and refined, with LED’s and a light guide emphasising the expression of the headlamp, both day and night.

208 offers a first rate driving experience, achieved through a combination of interior quality, attention to detail and a wide range of equipment and technology. Underpinning all of this, of course, is Peugeot’s rich history of Supermini cars with superb road holding and excellent driving characteristics.

Interior Quality and Attention to Detail

The interior of 208 is modern and exclusive.

The fascia of the car mirrors the styling elements of the exterior design, offering quality, purity and elegance. The diameter of the steering wheel is reduced, it increases comfort and safety by eliminating the need for the driver to take his eyes off the road and the position of the instrument panel is elevated.

Here again, the 208 breaks the established codes to offer new driving ergonomics, clear and natural, benefiting ease of driving, manoeuvrability, precision, a more intimate relationship with the vehicle, the feeling of being at one with it.

The Touch Screen: intuitive connectivity

In keeping with its time, consistent with the new ergonomics of its instruments and controls, the 208 will offer the majority of its customers, that is from the Active level (i.e. approximately 80% of the mix!), a large 7" colour touch screen with carefully designed graphics (resolution 800 x 480) and intuitive operation.

It allows easy access to the various functions: radio, Bluetooth hands-free kit or playing of music files via a USB connection or audio streaming.

The screen adopts a semi-floating style as the designers wanted to highlight it in a way which is very enhancing. It is positioned prominently, within easy reach and at eye level, for maximum safety, comfort and harmony with the other components of the dashboard.
