The electronically controlled clutch in the X6 is superior in all but extreme off roading thus rivalling any other all-wheel drive systems, as it is able to respond more quickly. The six speed automatic transmission has the electronic gear selector and dash mounted paddles for that extra bit of fun. The steering is incredibly accurate thanks to performance oriented steering and will easily glide you in and out of those parking bays. Of course this is further aided by front and rear parking sensors that are a little sensitive but can be switched off. Other aides to the driver are rain sensors with automatic headlight activation, tyre puncture warning system, cruise control with brake function and Xenon headlights for low and high beam.
Protecting all occupants are driver and passenger airbags, front and side ITS head airbags for the first and second seat rows plus crash activated headrests at the front. Both rear seats have child seat ISOFIX mountings and the whole body structure has been designed for maximum occupant safety.
However I defy anyone to go off piste in the X6. In fact it is almost a challenge to try and get it wrong for the Dynamic Stability Control must have every conceivable addition ever known on any car. It includes – big breath here- Automatic Differential Brake, Automatic Stability Control, Brake fade compensation, Brake pre-tensioning, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Hill Descent Control and Hill- start assistant. There is no way this car is going anywhere except on the road.
The BMW X6 xDrive 35i will set you back £43,160 initially Beware of all those optional tempting extras. My test car had a grand total of £9,355 worth. This car is such a niche product for those where money is so option, appeasing dads for performance, mums for practicality and stroppy teenager with attitude for looks. I doubt if the X6 will be a best selling in terms of volume sales, but to the few owners that do splash out, they will be the proud owners of one of the best, unique BMW’s ever produced.

The only car you need if you cannot afford to keep two cars. It have everything from power, looks and safety. Some day all cars will be like that.
