Christmas is such as exciting time not just for children, but adults as well. Some will be fortunate to attend lavish lunches or delicious dinners, the office parties will be in full swing and the air will be filled with the sound of merriment.
But sadly, those partygoers, heavily tanked up, getting into their cars and driving home over the legal limit, will spoil some Christmass forever.
Despite the high profile campaigns urging them against it, millions of drivers will insist on driving under the influence of alcohol. Many will firmly believe they are sober enough to drive, others admit they may have consumed too much and grab a strong coffee believing this will instantly sober them up.
But its not just the youngsters who are the cutlets. In fact they are quite responsible having grown up with the anti drink drive campaign firmly cemented into their heads. Its the older generations who are more prone to this utterly selfish act, invariably having a few pints at lunch followed by "just the one" after work, that inevitably leads to two or three. Add that up over the course the day, the result, over the limit and unfit to drive.
I now its expensive to pay for a taxi or inconvenient to wait for a bus of train, but what is time or money when it comes to losing your licence, possibly your job, or the ultimate worse case scenario, you have an accident resulting in a fatality.
Just imagine the devastation, a week before Christmas, this tragedy will bring to families across the UK. Parents, who think their son or daughter is out having a great time with friends, suddenly gets a knock on the door from the police. "Your child has been involved in an accident", or a Mother, whose husband is out with office colleagues, those same chilling words, the look of horror as what she has just heard. How is she ever going to tell her children Daddy wont be here for Christmas? How can Christmas ever be the same for a family who has lost a dearly beloved member though a selfish drink driver?
So please all you readers, think about this. Have a wonderful fun exciting Christmas but please dont drink and drive and urge your husbands, partners, sons and daughters the same.
