Twelve Years A Slave

Twelve Years A Slave

I know that summer 2013 is only just coming to a close but here at FemaleFirst we are already getting excited about the movies that will be coming out way in 2014.

If you are a film fan then you are in for a major treat next year as there really is something for everyone from blockbusters to sci-fi and hard hitting drama to biopics.

So we take a look at some of the 2014 films that we are looking forward to the most.

- Twelve Years A Slave (released 24th January)

Steve McQueen is a wonderfully exciting director having brought us Hunger and Shame in recent years.

He is back in the new year with Twelve Years A Slave; which is a big screen adaptation of the novel by Solomon Northup.

The movie follows Solomon Northup, a free black man from New York, who is kidnapped and sold into slavery.

Chiwetel Ejiofor will take on the central role while Brad Pitt. Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch and Paul Giamatti are all on board.

McQueen has a knack for making hard hitting movies and Twelve Years A Slave looks set to follow in that fine tradition.

- Noah (released 28th March)

It has been a while since we have seen a Darren Aronofsky movie grace the big screen, but he is back in the director's chair in 2014 with Noah.

Written by Darren Aronofsky and John Logan this biblical epic is set to follow Noah as he suffers from visions of a flood and takes steps to protect his family.

Russell Crowe is set to take on the title role while Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone and Douglas Booth are all also on board.

Noah is set to be a movie like no other in 2014 as Aronofsky brings his unique vision to this well known tale.

- Divergent (released 21st March)

One of the most talked about movies so far this year comes in the form of Divergent as Veronica Roth is set to be adapted for the big screen.

There was huge hype surrounding the film at Comic Con as Shailene Woodley turned up to chat about the project.

Divergent is set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group.

When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

Woodley will take on the central role of Beatrice 'Tris' Prior in the film as she teams up with director Neil Burger.

Kate Winslet, Ray Stevenson, Ashley Judd, Maggie Q and Jai Courtney make up an impressive cast list.

- Saving Mr Banks (released 17th January)

Starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson new biopic movie Saving Mr Banks has Oscar contender written all over it.

We all know how well biopic tend to do at the Oscars, thrown in Hanks and Thompson and you have a recipe for massive success.

Thompson will play author P.L. Travers in the movie which follows her travels to America and meeting Walt Disney, who wants to make her movie Mary Poppins into a film.

John Lee Hancock is in the director's chair for the film while Colin Farrell, Ruth Wilson and Paul Giamatti make up a wonderful cast list.

Saving Mr Banks looks set to have charm at every turn and could well be a major awards player early next year.

- X-Men: Days of Future Past (released 22nd May)

Bryan Singer has been behind two of the best X-Men movies, and it is great to see him back in the director's chair for X-Men: Days of Future Past.

This will be his first X-Men movie since he helmed X2 and will see him bring the new and the old together in the sequel to First Class.

The film is set to follow Wolverine as he is send back to the past to change a historical event that will have a huge impact on both humans and mutants.

First Class stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult are back, while Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart will also be reprising their roles.

I am excited to see Singer back in the director's chair for this and bring the two X-Men franchises together in this one film. This promises to be one not to miss.

- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (released 2nd May)

No summer is complete without a major Marvel film and Captain America: The Winter Solider sees Steve Rodgers return to the big screen.

We are well into Phase Two of Marvel films and this is the second outing for Captain America in a solo film - this will be the first time we have seen the character since Avengers Assemble.

The movie will see Rodgers team up with Black Widow as they do battle with an enemy in Washington D.C.

Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson are all back while Anthony Mackie, Robert Redford and Emily VanCamp are some of the new faces to watch out for.

Marvel are on a real roll at the moment and Captain America: The Winter Soldier looks set t be another fantastic addition to this universe - I really cannot wait to see this!!
