Adapted from Ian McEwan’s best selling novel, ‘Atonement’ is set to be the big British drama of 2007. Starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, and transformed for the screen by acclaimed writer Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons), the film plays homage to Ian McEwan’s literary masterpiece. On the hottest day of the summer of 1935, thirteen-year-old Briony Tallis sees her older sister Cecilia strip off her clothes and plunge into the fountain in the garden of their country house. Watching her is their housekeeper's son Robbie Turner, a childhood friend who, along with Cecilia, has recently graduated from Cambridge. By the end of this fateful day the lives of all three have been changed forever. Robbie and Cecilia cross a boundary they had never before dared to approach and will have become victims of the younger girl's scheming imagination. Briony will have committed a dreadful crime, the guilt of which will colour the rest of her adult life.

Featuring an all-star cast including Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Romola Garai, Saoirse Ronan and Brenda Blethyn, Atonement is bought to you by the director/producer team behind ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Joe Wright and Paul Webster, and has been scored beautifully by Oscar nominee Dario Marianelli.

In Cinemas 7th September 2007
