Alex Cross

Alex Cross

This week sees the character of Alex Cross return to the big screen as actor/director Tyler Perry takes on the role for the very first time.

The movie Alex Cross sees James Patterson’s novel Cross adapted for the big screen as Rob Cohen returns to the director’s chair.

This is a movie that has been in production for two years with director David Twohy and actor Idris Elba linked to the project in the past.

But it is Cohen at the helm and Alex Cross is his first movie since The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor while Marc Moss and Kerry Williamson have penned the screenplay.

Alex Cross follows the homicide detective/psychologist (Perry), from the worldwide best-selling novels by James Patterson, as he meets his match in a serial killer (Matthew Fox).

The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits in this taut and exciting action thriller.

This is the third time that the character of Alex Cross has appeared on the big screen after films Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider.

Morgan Freeman played the role of Cross for the first time back in 1997 in Kiss The Girls - which was directed by Gary Fleder.

The result was a great crime drama that saw Freeman team up with actress Ashley Judd as she played the survivor of a serial killer.

Four years later Freeman reprised the role of forensic psychologist Alex Cross in Along Came A Spider - which was based on the Patterson novel of the same name.

Lee Tamahori was in the director’s chair this time around while Monica Potter and Michael Wincott were also on the cast list.

For Alex Cross fans it has been over a decade wait for this new film despite there being much talk of adapting another Patterson novel for quite some tome.

And it is good news for those Alex Cross fans as there is already another project in the pipeline as Double Cross is set to be adapted for the big screen with Tyler Perry reprising the role.

Alex Cross is released 30th November
