Slumdog Millionaire's success continues after it was announced that the film was leading the nominations for the London Evening Standard's film awards.

The film, which won a string of Golden Globes at the weekend; including Best Motion Picture Drama, is in the running for Best Director for Danny Boyle while the film's leading man Dev Patel has been nominated as a most promising newcomer. However the movie has been overlooked in the Best Film category.

Political drama Frost/Nixon, which was snubbed completely at the Globes, Hunger and Unrelated will go head to head in the best film category.

Joining Danny Boyle in the fight for Best Director is Stephen Daldry for his Holocaust drama The Reader and Lenny Abrahamson for the Irish small-town drama Garage.

And there was another nomination for double Globe winner Kate Winslet in the Best Actress category for her roles in The Reader and Revolutionary Road. Joining her in the category is Tilda Swinton for Julia and Samantha Morton for Mister Lonely, Sally Hawkins' performance in Happy Go Lucky was overlooked.

However there was a nomination for the actress, who has burst onto the scene with her upbeat performance as Poppy in Mike Leigh's comedy, which has charmed American audiences and critics, in the Peter Sellers Award for Comedy. She is joined by her co-star Eddie Marsan and Chris Waitt for his documentary, A Complete History of My Sexual Failures.

Hunger's leading man Michael Fassbender, who has also been nominated as an Orange Rising Star at the Baftas, finds himself in the Best Actor category alongside Frost/Nixon actor Michael Sheen and Garage star Pat Shortt.

The awards have been handed out by the London newspaper every year since 1973 and award the best of British talent. The awards are decided by a panel of top UK critics.
