Battleship

Battleship

Who would have thought that a super popular board game would turn into one of the blockbusters to watch out for in the summer of 2012.

Well that is exactly what has happened with Battleship as Peter Berg returns to the director's chair.

Inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval combat game Battleship will be sailing into cinemas next month mixing action and sci-fi as it goes.

This is the first directorial outing for Berg since box office hit Hancock back in 2008 and it reunites the director with Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch.

Kitsch is having a busy start to 2012 as he already has John Carter under his belt.

But he moves from one sci-fi movie to another and he takes on the role of Lt. Alex Hopper in the movie.

Liam Neeson and Alexander Skarsgård are also both on board while Rihanna makes her big screen debut.

Yes the Umbrella hitmaker has followed in the footsteps of Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears as she tries to juggle both a music and an acting career.

And talk about being thrown in the deep end as this is a major action packed movie, where she will have to tackle special effects and greenscreen, to chalk off as her debut.

Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.

Being one of the first blockbuster movies of the summer to be released is a smart move for this film as it will not get lost amongst the likes of Avengers Assemble and The Amazing Spider Man.

The movie has an estimated budget of $200 million and this is one of those movies where you just don't know who it will be received.

Battleship is released 11th April
