The Blind Side

The Blind Side

Sandra Bullock got her hands on her first Oscar for Best Actress earlier this year for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy as director John Lee hancock brought the story of Michael Oher to the big screen.

After Michael was found wandering the street in the pouring rain, he was taken in by Leigh-Anne for one night but formed a bond with him and eventually adopted him, encouraging him to play football at school and eventually college before going on to be one of America's biggest sporting stars.

They always say that behind every great man there is a great women so we take a look at some of these women:

- Hilary Clinton and Bill

Billed as the real Vice-President during Bill’s two terms as President, Hillary had unprecedented power and influence in the White House.

She subsequently set a record as the first ever former-First Lady to stand for elective office as Senator for New York and came extremely close to being chosen by the Democractic Party as its candidate for the 2008 Presidential election. She’s currently Secretary of State.

- Sarah Brown and Gordon

Sarah Brown married her husband Gordon in 2000 after meeting at a Labour party event when she was running her own Public Relations agency.

She has supported her husband throughout his political career and even introduced him as ‘my husband, my hero’ at the Labour party conference in 2009.

Sarah, however is a tireless campaigner acting as patron to numerous charities including Women’s Aid, Maggie’s Joy, The White Ribbon Alliance and Wellbeing of Women.

- Victoria Beckham and David

‘Brand Beckham’ could not exist with only David at the helm. With Victoria’s fame, media-savvy and ability to maximise every opportunity to their advantage the couple have become a multi-million pound brand.

Their endorsements between them have included Sharpie, Brylcreem, Vodaphone, Adidas, Pepsi and Armani to name but a few.

Having moved stateside to follow David’s career at LA Galaxy, Victoria has embraced her love for fashion and has now proved her worth in the fashion stakes by releasing a critically acclaimed range of dresses.

This is just another string to the bow of the lady who already has singer, model, muse and mother on her CV.

- Judy Murray and Andy

Often criticised for being a pushy mother, Judy was the one that has nurtured both Andy and his brother Jamie’s tennis careers. Andy Murray revealed his amazing skill for tennis at the age of five and then went on to win various junior titles.

In order to hone Andy’s skill, Judy moved the family to Barcelona for him to train with Emilio Sanchez, the former no.1 World doubles champion. Judy can be seen at every game shouting and grunting louder than Murray himself.

- Sharon Osbourne and Ozzy

Ozzy Osbourne shot to fame as the lead singer of Black Sabbath in the 1970s but it was his wife Sharon that created Ozzy into the successful rock star that he is today.

Grabbing Ozzy’s career by the horns Sharon became his manager and successfully steered his solo career as well creating a name for herself and her family in the process.

By creating one of the first fly-on-the-wall style documentaries, Sharon created a buzz around Ozzy, Kelly, Jack and herself which subsequently made them all household names.

Since her rise to fame she has cemented her status with turns as an X Factor judge and chat show host.

The Blind side is out on DVD and Blu-Ray 9th August.
