Daniel Day Lewis in Lincoln

Daniel Day Lewis in Lincoln

The Oscars are creeping every and who and what will be nominated is all everyone can seem to talk about.

We have already taken a look at some of the Best Picture frontrunner's and now it is time to look at the actors who could well be battling it out for Best Actor.

Daniel Day Lewis is already a two time Best Actor Oscar winner for My Left Foot and There Will be Blood but he could find himself in another Oscar fight for his performance in Lincoln.

Now we all know how the Academy loves a bio-pic and the Steven Spielberg directed movie sees Lewis take on the role of President Lincoln.

The movie is currently winning over movie go-ers in the States as it has shot up the box office to #3.

Lincoln isn't a birth to death story as Lewis play an older Abraham Lincoln as he is battling to abolish slavery and bring the American Civil War to an end.

Lewis has been a frontrunner for this award for some time and is still a favourite to make it a hat-trick of wins.

Joaquin Phoenix is another actor who is whipping up a storm as he makes his triumphant return to the big screen in The Master.

The Master has been enjoying big critical and commercial success in American and it is a movie that is expected to feature heavily during the awards season.

Phoenix has always been a talented and intense actor, he has a couple of Oscar nods under his belt already, and he delivers more of the same in The Master - he and Philip Seymour Hoffman really are the film's saving grace.

However Phoenix have has made some quite negative comments about the Oscars in recent weeks and therefore could have harmed his chances. However expect him to bag an nod as he really does deliver a great performance.

There is only one Oscar contender that everyone is talking about this week and that is Les Miserables as it received a secret screening in the U.S. earlier this week.

And to say that the screening was a triumph would be putting it lightly as audience member immediately took to Twitter to heap praise on the film.

And Hugh Jackman's performance as Jean Valjean was been drowned under praise and fans were calling on the Academy to recognise his central performance.

This would be the first Oscar nomination for the talented actor while Les Miserables is set to be one of the movies not to miss in the new year.

Bradley Cooper is also a possibility for his performance in Silver Linings Playbook as he delivered a great performance as a man battling with bipolar disorder.

Denzel Washington is also a possibility for Flight as is John Hawkes for The Sessions.
