Bobby Fischer is considered to be the greatest chess player of all time who defeated the Russian Champion Boris Spassky during the cold war.
The Chess match was historical in bringing relations between the USA and Russia to a more calm and cordial state as well as elevating chess to a mainstream sport.
After his win Bobby Fischer became a recluse, resurfacing only for a rematch against Spassky in Yugoslavia. Ignoring sanctions in place by the United States he played a 3 million dollar rematch against Spassky, causing the United States to issue a warrant for Fischer's arrest.
Fischer was taken into custody in Japan as a result. After Fischer was released he went into exile in Iceland, the only country who would give him a passport.
Because of Fischer _s loss of his US citizenship he could not return to his home in Brooklyn NY. Fischer spent the rest of his life in seclusion traveling abroad, and developed a deep seated hatred against the USA and its policies.
He also began to spiral down into psychological torment and as a result developed a strange rant of terrorist like hatred towards America even on the day of 911. Fischer also developed hatred towards Israel even becoming anti semitic even though he himself was Jewish.
