It's appreciated that movies are a form of entertainment a chance for us all to escape to another place and just relax.
However there does come a time when these movies perhaps take, what they believe to be their clever plots, just a step too far, many boardering into the absolute ridiculous. So here at FemaleFirst we have taken a look at some of cinema's most outrageous plots.
The Happening
Yes leading the way is 2008 movie The Happening, what was Mark Wahlberg thinking when he signed on for this? It begins in Central Park. Suddenly and inexplicably, the behavior of everyone in the park changes in a most bizarre and horrible way. Soon, the strange behavior spreads throughout the city and beyond.
But what could have caused the human race to behave in such a manner? Is it terrorists or aliens? Er no it appears that the natural world has had enough of man's polluting of the planet and yes the trees are taking a stand.
I mean seriously who keeps financing this guy's movies?
Face/Off
Now I will be the first to admit that I'm a fan of 1997's Face/Off Nicolas Cage and John Travolta impersonating each other is cinema gold but the plot...what?
Sean Archer, a very tough, rugged FBI Agent. Who is still grieving for the dead son Michael. Archer believes that his son's killer is his sworn enemy, a very powerful criminal, Castor Troy.
Troy planted a bonb before he was knocked out and only his brother was privvy to it's location so instead of the usual undercover detective work of piecing the clues together it seems that a doctor has perfected a method wherein the face of one individual is removed from him and placed on another.
Troy who was believed to be comatose awakens and forces the doctor who operated on Archer to place Archer's face on him. I mean come on!
Vanilla Sky
I will hold my hands up and admit that I don't like Tom Cruise, can't stand him in fact, so nothing he ever does is any good in my eyes but Vanilla Sky really does take the biscuit. If anyone can actually explained what i watched it would be greatly appreciated.
Handsome, wealthy and charismatic, New York City publishing executive David Aames leads a charmed life. But one night David makes a small mistake that causes him to lose Sofia, the girl of his dreams. In his search for her, David is thrust unexpectedly into a rollercoaster ride of romance, sex, lies and suspicion that results in his ex-girlfriend's suicide and a car accident that leaves David hideously disfigured.
Soon, however, his luck seems to change when Sofia declares her love for him and the doctors are able to rebuild his face. But when strange things begin to happen, he starts to realize that his life has taken a turn beyond his control.
Armageddeon
Now Michael Bay is famous for his big budget blockbusters that are ever so slightly outrageous supported by huge special effects and 1998's Armageddon is no different.
NASA discover that there is an asteroid roughly the size of Texas heading towards the Earth, and when it does hit the Earth, the planet itself and all of its inhabitants will be obliterated, worse, the asteroid will hit the Earth in 18 days.
And who is the answer to the world's woes? A bunch of misfit drillers and geologists, led by Bruce Willis' Harry Stamper, who will go into space and drill on the asteroid to save the day.

Armageddeon! Another great example of film makers massively overestimating how powerful nuclear weapons are! If nuclear weapons could virtually disintegrate a frozen iron meteor, then a... Read More
