Cloud Atlas

2012 is coming to a close but FemaleFirst is already looking ahead to and getting excited about the movies that will be hitting the big screen in the early part of 2013.

There are some real corkers on the horizon from Oscar hopefuls to action blockbusters are we are going to take a look at some of the movies that you should not be missing.

One of the movies that is already whipping up a storm is Cloud Atlas - which promises to be like no other movie that will hit the big screen next year.

The movie sees Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer back in the director’s chair for the first time since Speed Racer as they bring the David Mitchell novel to life.

Mitchell penned the novel back in 2004 and was a major success as he brought together a series of characters through the ages and intertwined them all together.

Not only is Cloud Atlas set to be a rather interesting and unique story but it also bring together one of the best ensemble cast of the year and will see many of those actors playing multiple roles.

Oscar winners Tom Hanks and Halle Berry lead the cast and they will both take on six roles including Dr Henry Goose and Luisa Rey.

The rest of the cast list is a mix of experienced talent as well as some of film’s new stars as the likes of Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant, Ben Wishaw, Jim Sturgess and James D’Arcy are all set to star.

Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future.

Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.

Cloud Atlas is a movie that is surrounded in Oscar buzz and could well find itself in the battle for best Picture when the nominations are announced in early January.

Directors Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer have always been visionary filmmakers and have made movies that have played to this strength - Cloud Atlas promises to continue that tradition and it will be a movie that is not to be missed.

Cloud Atlas is released 22nd February
