To say that the comic book movie has found success at the box office is a little bit of an understatement as the likes of The Dark Knight and Iron Man stormed the box office in 2008.
And with Watchmen currently at the top of the box office on both sides of the pond and the likes of Wolverine and G.I. Joe both waiting for release 2009 looks like it's going to bring something similar.
So here at FemaleFirst we took a look at some of the comic book adaptations that are currently getting the Hollywood treatment.
X-Men: Wolverine is the latest X-Men movie to hit the big screen and the first film that focuses on just one of the characters. There are however other X projects in the works as Magneto will get his own movie and there X-Men: First Class, which will look at the teenage mutants.
And there are plenty of other Marvel projects in the pipeline as the casting of Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson have been unveiled for a second Iron Man movie.
We can then look forward to Thor, Spiderman 4 and Samuel L Jackson has signed a nine movie deal to play Nick Fury. It was also revealed earlier this week that The Fantastic Four is to get a facelift getting rid of the old cast and going down an Iron Man route.
There is also talk to bring all of these character together for The Avengers.
Marvel's rivals DC Comics will also be busy in the near future with Wonder Woman, Superman: Man of Steel and The Green Lantern are all in the pipeline.
After the success of The Dark Knight Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale are expected to return to make a third movie, there are no definite plans at the moment however.
Like The Avengers there are also talks of bringing all the DC Comic characters together as the Justice League.
Sin City is also set to return to our screen Frank Miller announced back in 2007 based on his graphic novel A Dame to Kill For, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek and Rose McGowan have all been tipped for the lead role.
There are rumours of a third movie based Hell and Back that could see Johnny Depp in the role of Wallace.
Stephen Norrington, the man behind Blade and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, is attached to the new The Crow project. After the 1994 film that became a cult hit subsequent movies have been a disaster so the franchise to get a reboot.
Ruairi Robinson is to helm a live action version of the Katshurio Otomo's Manga character Akira, an anime movie was made in 1988. Leonardo DiCaprio is on board to produce but there is no cast news.
Jonah Hex is also getting the big screen treatment with No Country for Old Men and W star Josh Brolin in the role of Hex and John Malkovich is set to play Turnbull.
The script is penned by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and it will be directed by Jimmy Hayward. A 2010 release is expected.
Later this year we will see the release of Dragonball Evolution and Kick Ass and Peter Jackson has begun the special effects work on Tintin, directed by Steven Spielberg.
