Now I don’t know about you but the announcement that Dirty Dancing is to be remade has not filled me with joy. I realise that this movie was never going to be an Oscar winner but many a teenage girl has enjoyed that movie for many years.

It was very much of it’s time capturing the innocence of a young girl as she fell in love for the very first time. A remake, which I am presuming will be set in modern day, will never be able to recapture everything that made Dirty Dancing a classic - where are you going to fit in ‘I carried a watermelon’?

There are just some movies that shouldn’t be touched and, I’m afraid, that this is one of them - Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights was a disaster so if they can’t get a sequel right I don’t hold out much hope for a remake.

So bearing this in mind we take a look at some of the movies that should never EVER, under any circumstances be considered for an up to date remake.

The Goonies

For me at least The Goonies is one of the all time kid adventure movies that is a must see for everyone growing up.

This is good old fashioned adventure movie; treasure map, bad guys and a pirates ship. But at the movie’s heart is friendship and films focuses on the innocence of childhood and their faith in the unlikely.

It’s a warm, fun, exciting movie that makes you remember what it was like to be a kid. To see this movie given a 21st century makeover with the special effects and CGI would see all the charm of the Richard Donner directed movie just fade away.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Without a shadow of a doubt Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of the best Western movies of all time, it’s up there with the likes of The Magnificent Seven. And while the likes of 3:10 To Yuma and True Grit have been remade so far, despite some talk, this movie has not yet been sullied.

Directed by George Hill Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid encapsulated the very meaning of the Western dramatic chase scenes on horseback to daring robberies of banks and trains all based around a friendship where either would die for the other.

It's success was largely down to the sizzling chemistry of Robert Redford and Paul Newman, with Newman was at his roguish best and Redford mixing sex appeal with danger - hard to believe that they weren’t the original pairing.

Why mess with a movie that is almost perfection? There’s no way this movie could be bettered so why bother? Plus you could never find a pairing as good as this!!

E.T.

It’s hard to believe that E.T. will be thirty years old next year, I wasn’t even born when this movie was released, and yet it has thrilled children time after time and generation after generation.

The thing about alien movie now is special effect, explosion, battles and so on while Steven Spielberg went down a very different track and made a very human story.

The most interesting part of this film is the acceptance and tolerance of the children - they didn’t care E.T. was from space he was their friend.

E.T. is a story of friendship, growing up, loss and deserve to be labelled a classic. Much like The Goonies 21st Century filmmaking would spoil the heart, charm and warmth of this movie.

Rebel Without A Cause

James Dean may have only made three movies in a career that was cut tragically short but he remains one of the industry’s biggest icons.

Rebel Without A Cause is perhaps the most famous of these and his role as defiant teenager Jim Stark made him an icon as the film highlighted teenagers struggle at finding where they fit in society.

Rebel without a Cause" focuses on a teenage social outcast searching for his identity. His dysfunctional parents (a milquetoast father and a cantankerous mom) can't help him and he shuns any form of authority.

The film was designed to portray the existing decay of youth in middle America, question parental style, and expose the rift that was growing between the two generations.

Jurassic Park

We have already talked about one Spielberg movie well here is another as Jurassic Park remains the greatest dinosaur movie of all time.

It doesn’t seem five minutes ago that this film was the biggest grossing of all time but in 2013 the movie will be twenty years old.

But a telling sign of a truly great movie is how it looks years later and Jurassic Park really still looks the business.

I have never been a fan of the sequels that followed and I certainly would not like to see the franchise rebooted.

Jurassic Park is terrifyingly realistic and remains a truly great action/adventure/survival movie that more than holds its ground along the blockbuster movies of today - in fact it's better than a lot of them!

Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands marked the working relationship of maverick filmmaker Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp when they worked together for the first time back in 1990.

This movie is a Beauty and the Beast tale that takes a good look at the ideas of society and how Edward struggled fitting in because he didn't fit the mould of suburban America.

Edward Scissorhands is about acceptance and tolerance of those who are different and this message is delivered with wit, humour and charm.

Tim Burton's visual style has always inventive, quirky with strong gothic undertones and Edward Scissorhands set up what we come to expect from every Burton movie that followed and almost two decades later.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of cinema's most classic movies and is one of actress Audrey Hepburn's most identifiable roles that produced many iconic images.

Holly is a free spirit someone who won’t be caged by love or commitments, even refusing to name her cat as it would demonstrate an attachment. It’s a lonely life.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is a journey of self discovery for both Holly and Paul, who have sold themselves to survive in the big city which is full of hidden agendas.

It's a great central performance as Holly, who is both naive yet wise - with Hepburn striking that perfect balance.

This is not your typical boy meets girl love story as Truman Capote (the author of the book) tried something new and exciting with this well known format.

No one could ever fill the little black dress, of Hepburn. And while many have tried to cover Moon River over the years no performance of that song is more pure or pulls at the heart strings than that of Hepburn.
