Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams will be featuring in the film Blue Valentine this weekend, the story of a couple from both the beginning and end of their marriage. Michelle Williams has been hotly tipped for Oscar nominations and has already bagged herself nominations for her portrayal of her character in the movie. Williams has slowly been making a name for herself as a solid young actress. She was engaged to the late Heath Ledger and is the mother to his child.

Her best film to date was the intriguing Martin Scorsese thriller Shutter Island. She plays the deceased wife of Leonardo DiCaprio's character Teddy Daniels, who comes to him in the form of dream sequences but overall comes across as a key character as the film develops. If you imagine her as the Marion Cotillard character from Inception, you'll understand just how important and also brilliant she is in the role. She has the same influence over the story and the same pivotal power over the main protagonist.

I'm Not There features Williams as Coco Rivington, the role is inspired by Andy Warhol IT-girl Edie Sedgewick during her time involved with Bob Dylan. I'm Not There featured an impressive ensemble cast of actors portraying different times and styles in Dylan's life, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere and also Heath Ledger featured. The film received very positive reviews and was in the top films of the year for a number of critics.

Michelle Williams stars in Brokeback Mountain, the story of two cowboys who form a relationship. This was where she met Heath Ledger and played his wife. She was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar and this is probably her finest role up until Blue Valentine. Ang Lee's film was nominated for eight Oscars and won three.

The Station Agent is the next on the list of her essential films. The film follows the story of a quiet withdrawn man with achondroplasic dwarfism, as he finds friends in a small town in New Jersey. Michelle Williams plays the love interest in the film, as a woman trying to stay away from her ex-boyfriend. The film won a number of awards and received a very positive reception from critics, getting an especially good reception at the Sundance Film Festival.

The final film to watch is Wendy and Lucy, another indie hit which was received very well. It follows the story of Wendy, played by Williams, as she tries to move to Alaska with her dog Lucy to start a new life. She has very little money and the film follows her struggle to get to her destination. The film centres completely on Michelle Williams and she carries it flawlessly, with a lot of critics putting it down as the best performance of the year it was released.
