Harrison Ford has enjoyed a successful career that has spanned over forty years, landing his first job in 1966, and is best known for his role as wise cracking pilot Han Solo in Star Wars and action hero Indiana Jones.
Born in Illinois he moves to Los Angeles at the age of twenty two to pursue a job as a radio voice over.
Failing to get the job he stayed in LA and signed a contract with Columbia Pictures's New Talent Program.
For the early part of his career he did a string of speaking parts and minor roles in TV shows and film throughout the late 1960s.
Unhappy with the roles that were coming his way he became s self-taught professional carpenter to support his family.
He turned back to acting when George Lucas, who had hired him to built some cabinets, cast him in his 1973 movie American Graffiti.
Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series Happy Days.
