Amber Heard in Drive Angry

Amber Heard returns to the big screen this week as she joins forces with Nicolas Cage for Drive Angry 3D - which is directed by Patrick Lussier.

Heard has seen her star steadily rise over the last couple of years and 2011 looks set to be a busy one for her.

In the early noughties Heard mixed and matched movie and TV parts as she tried to make a name for herself - appearing in Friday Night Lights, The O.C. and Criminal Minds.

But it was to be a TV series that was to given her the leg up that she needed as she landed the role of Greta Matthews in Hidden Palms.

It wasn't long before movies came calling and it was All the Boys Love Mandy Lane that gave her her first lead role.

A group of high-schoolers invite Mandy Lane, a good girl who became quite hot over the summer, to a weekend party on a secluded ranch.

While the festivities rage on, the number of revelers begins to drop quite mysteriously.

The movie made quite an impact when it premiered at the Toronto Film festival but it would have to wait for a year before making it's way into cinemas.

A string of smaller roles followed as she appeared in Never Back Down, Pineapple Express and Zombieland before starring alongside Mickey Rourke and Billy Bob Thornton in The Informers.

But the horror genre is where she has enjoyed most success with The Stepfather and The Ward, which saw her work with John Carpenter, under her belt.

Drive Angry is her latest project as she teams up with Nicolas Cage and William Fichtner for the action movie.

Milton, a hardened felon has broken out of hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon.

He's joined by Piper - a young, sexy waitress who liberates her ex-boyfriend's cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton.

Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult, Jonah King, who believes it is his destiny to use the baby to unleash hell on earth.

And she is set to mix her roles throughout the rest of the year as she has completed work on a comedy short The Applicant and is due to star in TV movie Playboy.

But she will be back on the big screen at the end of the year with Rum Diary, starring alongside Johnny Depp.

Drive Angry 3D is released 25th February
