Everyone is currently talking about The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow and the movie's leading man Jeremy Renner.
Despite kicking off his acting career in 1995 it's his current role as SFC William James that has really shot him to fame and caught everyone's attention, and further success is now sure to come his way.
The actor kicked off his career in the mid nineties mixing television and movie work with episodes of Deadly Games and Strange Luck and movies such as Senior Trip and Paper Dragons.
He has worked steadily over the years getting movies such as S.W.A.T, North Country and Lords of Dogtown all under his belt.
2007 was a very successful year for the actor as he appeared alongside Brad Pitt in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford before going on to star as Sgt. Doyle in 28 Weeks Later, a sequel to Danny Boyle's 2002 movie.
But it's Iraq war movie The Hurt Locker that has really seen the actor make a name for himself as well as show off his acting skills and potential.
The movie is an intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat.
When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge, by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat.
James behaves as if he's indifferent to death. As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James' true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever
The movie is the personal perspective of James, Sanborn and Eldridge as they face the horrors of modern warfare mixed with the adrenaline buzz of there task in Iraq.
And the central characters all beautifully contrast with one another James is reckless with the rules going about the job in his own way regardless of the safety of those around him.
Sanborn on the other hand likes missions to go by the book in a bid to get everyone out alive and Eldridge is haunted by the decisions that he made that caused the death of a friend.
But the three pull together to survive their time in Iraq until a reckless decision by James puts lives on the line.
It’s a great performance from Renner as the troubled James who struggles with life in the real world and gets off on the thrill of his highly dangerous job.
The movie was critically acclaimed upon release last year and the awards have flooded in for the movie, the director and Renner himself.
Best Actor awards at the Boston Society of Film Critics Awards and Las Vegas Film Critics Society Awards as well as being recognised at Best Breakthrough Performance by the National Board of Review have all come his way.
He bagged nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Satellite Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards and this weekend he will battle it out for Best Actor at the 2010 Oscars.
Up next for the actor is the Ben Affleck directed movie The Town, which also stars Affleck, Chris Cooper, Blake Lively and Rebecca Hall.
The Raven is currently a project that is in pre-production and he has been linked to The Avengers as Hawkeye, despite this being a great bit of casting at the moment it is just rumours.
