Joseph Gordon Levitt

Joseph Gordon Levitt

We bring to a close out countdown of the best actors of 2012 and in the number one spot is the fantastic Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Levitt has been an exciting actor for many years and so when you see you are going to get three movies from him in the space of a year you know that you are in for a real treat.

On the whole Levitt has stayed away from the big budget blockbusters during his career but this summer saw him reunite with director Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight Rises.

Levitt was one of the new faces on the cast list for the third and final Batman movie by Nolan as he took on the role of John Blake.

Blake is a young police officer who finds himself fighting to save Gotham from the clutches of Bane - but he is a character who hides another identity.

The Dark Knight Rises was a blockbuster triumph that saw the trilogy brought to an epic and exciting climax.

It was great to see Levitt take on a blockbuster role and he really was a great addition to the cast list and enjoyed some fantastic scenes with Christian Bale and Gary Oldman.

He went from blockbuster to a much smaller project with Premium Rush at the beginning of the autumn which saw him team up with filmmaker David Koepp.

The movie is a lot of fun from start to finish and the stunt work on this film is just incredible. It was another great performance from Levitt as he showed that he can move between genres of film with ease.

However it was his last big screen outing that was to be his best as he teamed up with Bruce Willis for sci-fi project Looper.

The movie reunited Levitt with director Rian Johnson and it was the best sci-fi movie to hit the big screen this year.

While Johnson blended sci-fi elements with hard hitting action sequences Levitt and Willis both delivered fantastic performances as the same character.

Levitt has clearly studied Willis as he prepared for the movie and he is an excellent younger version.

Looper was a critical smash as praise was heaped upon it left, right and centre as well as doing well at the box office.

And he will be back on the big screen in the new year with another highly acclaimed movie as he takes on the role of Robert Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.

The movie follows the later years of Abraham Lincoln’s life and his battle to end slavery and bring the Civil War to an end.

The movie has the critics raving in the States and it is already being considered a major Oscar contenders - it leads the Golden Globe nominations that were announced earlier this month.

Levitt has also completed work on Don Jon’s Addiction and that will also be released next year.
