Kristen Stewart in On The Road

Kristen Stewart in On The Road

Kristen Stewart is one of the most in demand actresses in Hollywood at the moment and she is back on the big screen this week with her new movie On The Road.

And while Stewart may only be twenty two she has already enjoyed a career that has spanned over a decade.

She kicked off her career in 1999 and had uncredited roles in The Thirteenth Year and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.

But it was Panic Room and the role of Sarah Altman that really caught people's attention as she went on to be nominated for a Young Artist Award.

She continued to work steadily throughout the early noughties with roles in the likes of Catch That Kids, Zathura and Into The Wild.

But it was to be the character of Bella Swan and The Twilight Saga franchise that would change the path of her career.

The popular Stephanie Meyer novel hit the big screen in 2008 with Stewart playing Bella and Robert Pattinson playing Edward Cullen.

While the movie enjoyed modest success at the box office Stewart saw her star rocket and she became a superstar almost over night.

Hysteria surrounding the franchise continued as New Moon and Eclipse hit the big screens over the coming years - this was fuelled by the fact that Stewart and Pattinson were dating away from the camera.

And while there was madness surrounding the Twilight franchise Stewart managed to fit in some other projects.

Adventureland and Welcome to the Rileys were more low key roles for Stewart but she was able to show her versatility as an actress and, especially with Welcome To The Rileys, get her teeth into a gritty role.

And this week she returns to more of an indie movie with On The Road, which is a big screen adaptation of the Jack Kerouac novel of the same name.

Stewart teams up with Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund for the film while Walter Salles is in the director's chair.

And 2012 has already been a busy year for the actress as she enjoyed big box office success this summer with Snow White and the Huntsman.

The movie was a re-telling of the popular fairytale and saw Stewart take on the role of Snow White.

And Twilight fever is set to sweep the globe once again this November as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 brings the franchise to a close.

Stewart will be leaving behind the franchise that made her and it will be exciting to find out what she does next.

On The Road is released 12th October
