We may have found our Best Movie of 2009 in the form of The Hurt Locker but we have also uncovered the Worst Movie of the year which comes, without a shadow of a doubt, in the form of The Land of the Lost.

The Land of the Lost is yet another TV show that has been remade for the big screen with Will Ferrell leading the cast back into the past.

Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr Rick Marshall, inventor of a sideways-time-travel device which plays show tunes from A Chorus Line. He is duly sucked into a space-time vortex and spat back into pre-history.

Now Marshall has no weapons few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world.

Sent back in time to help him is whip-smart research assistant Holly (Friel) and redneck survivalist Will (McBride)

When you The Land of the Lost and read the plot of travelling in time then this has got all the makings of an exciting movie that delves deep into our dinosaur past.

Err no sadly that idea evaporates as soon as it arrives as the film descends into farce from almost the second our plucky trio find themselves in this strange world.

This movie is one of the most disappointing movies of 2009 and it’s hard to believe that it comes with a budget of $100 million; you really have to wonder where all this money was spent, I imagine on Will Ferrell's fee.

The script lacks any wit or laughs, yes it’s really not funny, as well as any imagination for real originality.

What could have been a great romp through the pre-historic ages descends into a farce as the aliens once again come knocking, and when T-Rex ends up as a glorified dog then you know that you really are in trouble.

It’s performance that we have seen a hundred times from Ferrell and, to be honest, it’s getting a little tiresome. It's been revealed that the actor is considered the most over paid star, and on this performance I would have to agree.

You really have to wonder what any of the cast was thinking when they read this script as it’s just so silly and really doesn’t make any sense.

It’s a movie that just seems to have been thrown together with little effort and the special effects really are well below par to what we are used to.

The kids will probably enjoy it but those with fond memories of the original show I suggest that you give this one a real miss
