So the biggest night on the film calendar is upon us, of course I'm talking about the Oscars, and all the stars will flock down the red carpet hoping that they will be taking home awards.

And, which makes a nice change, British movies and performances are in with a real shot a glory but it remains to be seen if Slumdog Millionaire has peaked too early and if Kate Winslet will be overlooked again.

FemaleFirst may have given out our prestigious awards earlier in the week but it's time for me to put my money where my mouth is and predict where the Oscars are going to go.

After dominating the award circuit in recent weeks all eyes will, and quite rightly too, be on British independent film Slumdog Millionaire which will walk away with the top prize of Best Picture.

And, if there is any justice in the world, it will scoop a handful of awards from it's ten nominations including Best Director for Danny Boyle as well as Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy, music for A.R. Rahman and cinematography for Anthony Dod Mantle.

While The Curious Case of Benjamin Button may be leading the pack with thirteen nods but it is likely that the film will miss out in the major categories but could feature heavily in the more technical awards.

Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke have shared the gongs on the awards circuit but Mickey Rourke's comeback performance should scoop the Best Actor award.

A Holocaust movie may prove to be the golden ticket for Kate Winslet, go watch Extras, as it should be sixth time lucky for the popular actress.

Heath Ledger is the favourite to scoop the Best Supporting Actor award after being recognised for his performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight and Penelope Cruz is also a strong favourite to scoop Best Supporting Actress for Vicky, Cristina Barcelona.

Pixar's Wall-E has proved to be a hit with critics picking up a couple of Best Picture of prizes recently and it should see off competition from Bolt and Kung Fu Panda to win Best Animated Film.

There should be more success for animated movies as the critically acclaimed Waltz With Bashir with dance off with Best Foreign Film.

Best Director: Danny Boyle

Best Actor: Mickey Rourke

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
