Rafe Spall

Rafe Spall

Over the last couple of years Rafe Spall has seen his star rise as he has taken on bigger and better roles.

This week sees him back on the big screen as he stars in Ang Lee's new movie Life of Pi - which is an adaptation of the Yann Martel novel of the same name.

The film sees him work closely with actor Irrfan Khan in what is a beautiful, powerful and emotional movie.

It was back in 2001 that Spall kicked off his acting career with movie Beginner's Luck and since then he has successfully juggle TV work with film.

He worked predominately in British film in the early noughites with roles in Shaun of the Dead, The Calcium Kid and Kidulthood.

But it is in the last couple of years that Spall really has been grabbing everyone's attention.

In Anonymous he teamed up with Rhys Ifans and Vanessa Redgrave and director Roland Emmerich to tell an alternative tale about Shakespeare.

Spall took on the role of Shakespeare in the movie and he is not the writer that we are all use seeing in film depictions.

From there he went on to romantic comedy One Day where he played an early love interest of Anne Hathaway.

With this role he really did show that he is a great comic actor as he brought many of the laughs to the film.

Spall stepped into the big budget blockbuster this summer as he joined the ensemble cast of Prometheus.

Ridley Scott was in the director's chair as he returned to the Alien franchise while Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron were on a fantastic cast list.

Spall played Millburn, a biologist, in what is the biggest film of his career to date.

The movie was a critical hit and grossed in excess of $402 million at the global box office.

He is set to end 2012 with a bang as Life of Pi hits the big screen this weekend.

The movie teams him up with another Oscar winning filmmaker for what is set to be the most visually stunning movie of the year.

He plays a writer in the film who is asking Pi, played by Khan, about his shipwreck experience as a young boy.

And 2013 is going to be a busy year for the actor as The F Word and I Give It A Year are set for release.

The F Word sees him team up with Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan for a the comedy/drama while Rose Byrne is his leading lady for I Give It A Year.

Son of the South and Kill Your Friends are also in the pipeline and filming on those projects should get underway next year.

Rafe Spall is an incredibly versatile actor and it looks like his star is well and truly on the rise.
