Robert Downey Jr Q&A

1 month ago 15th Oct 09:01

Robert Downey Jr is considered one of the greatest actors of his generation shooting to fame as Charlie Chaplin in 1992, for which he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar.

Since then he has worked in a string of successful movies including Natural Born Killer, Good Night and Good Luck and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

But this summer saw him move into unfamiliar territory... the big budget blockbuster with the latest Marvel Comic character adaptation Iron Man. Taking on the role of Tony Stark Robert Downey Jr and Iron Man dominated the box office this summer.

Hi Robert. Congratulations on the success of Iron Man. Now there's talk of an Iron Man 2 and 3. What can Iron Man fans expect from the sequels?

There are so many different ways you can go. I really don't know. That's the cool thing. I feel like with this character we can do so many clever things with him.

Should we expect the unexpected?

Sure. That's how I see it. You know, if this is the expectation at the end of the first movie, well, let's turn it another way. If these films usually seem very two dimensional, let's make it more naturalistic.

I still love what Danny Glover and Mel Gibson did with the Lethal Weapon movies because of the way their interacted with each other. You bought into their friendship and their journey.

You looked physically pumped up in Iron Man. How much training in the gym did they give you?

They said I'd be fine to start shooting the way I looked, but I took it upon myself to get into really good shape.
