Savages

Savages

An new Oliver Stone movie is always something to look forward to and he is back later this year with his latest project Savages.

The movie is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Don Winslow and Stone, along with Shane Salerno, have adapted the book for the big screen.

And Stone has assembled one hell of a cast list for this movie, which comes as no real surprise as the best in Hollywood fall over themselves to work with this filmmaker.

This is a smaller project for Taylor Kitsch, who has stared in John Carter and Battleship already this year, and he is joined by Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, Uma Thurman, Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro and John Travolta.

Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry—raising some of the best marijuana ever developed.

They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.

When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon—with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)—wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and manoeuvres in a high stakes, savage battle of wills.

If anyone knows how to direct a tense crime thriller then it is Oliver Stone and with this balance of new and established talent makes Savages is one of the most promising movies in this genre this year.

Savages is released 28th September.
