The Bourne Ultimatum

The Bourne Trilogy starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne has topped a list of the Best Conspiracy Theory Movies according to new research by Universal Pictures (UK) to celebrate the release of the trilogy on Blu-ray.

As talk of Olympic genetic modification sweeps the nation, the series of films based on a mysterious CIA agent who has undergone genetic enhancement under ‘Operation Treadstone’ topped the list of conspiracy films with nearly a fifth of all votes (19.5%).

The Bourne series beat the big screen adaptation of the controversial The Da Vinci Code (2006) starring Tom Hanks, which came second with 14%.

Universal Pictures (UK) carried out the poll of over 1,000 film fans to promote The Ultimate Bourne Collection Blu-ray Box Set (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum) which is out now, as part of the studio’s year-long celebration.

The box set offers fans the perfect chance to revisit the action packed films ahead of the release of the next instalment, The Bourne Legacy.

The Truman Show (1998) which starred Jim Carrey as a man who discovers his whole life has been a set-up reality TV show, was named third in the poll (9.3%) and beat director Martin Scorsese’s recent thriller Shutter Island (2010) which focused on Leonardo DiCaprio as a US marshal investigating a disappearance (6.4%).

Cult seventies film The Wicker Man (1973) starring Edward Woodward as a policeman who discovers a sinister Pagan cult on a remote Scottish island was fifth in the list with 5.5% of the votes, followed by Will Smith's Enemy Of The State (1998) the tale of a lawyer who is tracked down after unwittingly holding footage of a covered up murder of a US Congressman (4.9%).

Continuing the political tone, JFK (1991) starring Kevin Costner as an attorney with another take on the Presidential killing marched into seventh place with 4.2%, narrowly beating Julia Roberts thriller The Pelican Brief (1993), the adaptation of John Grisham's tale of a law student who correctly guesses the motives behind two murders of high profile judges (4%).

Finally, 1959 Hitchcock classic North By Northwest starring Cary Grant showed it can still cut it in the drama stakes in ninth place in the list (3.9%), and Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman pairing up in All The President's Men (1976) to report on the Watergate scandal taking the tenth spot on the list with 3.6%.
