Whether it is a romantic cult classic or a Scorsese gangster flick, new research out today from LOVEFiLM reveals we are a nation of film bluffers with four out of five Brits (80 per cent) admitting to lying about seeing a film in order to impress friends and colleagues.
The poll revealed that Italian mafia flick The Godfather is the top movie film fans have lied about seeing to boost their film knowledge credentials.
The iconic 1972 gangster tale was voted the top porky with 30 per cent of wannabe movie buffs (or should we say bluffs) most likely to fib about having seen it in order to impress, beating the likes of other classics such as Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and Casablanca to take the title of Most Bluffed About Movie.
The title is just one of thousands of similar must see films that fans can now catch up on instantly using LOVEFiLM's watch online movie service across multiple platforms.
The 1942 romantic drama Casablanca took second place in the poll with 13 per cent of film fans saying that they would lie about having watched the classic, starring Hollywood legends Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, in order to put them one step ahead in the movie-knowledge stakes.
Another silver screen favourite Taxi Driver came in at third place (11 per cent). The 1976 Scorsese directed picture, which celebrates its 35th anniversary next month, tells the tale of a Vietnam war veteran turned taxi driver and gives film fans a glimpse of a young Jodie Foster.
Taking a stellar leap into the most-lied about movies is 2001: A Space Odyssey, Stanley Kubrick's 1968 Sci-Fi thriller which took fourth place (9 per cent) in the poll.
In fifth place was Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (8 per cent) - a film that LOVEFiLM members deemed would be criminal not to know about.
1984's music spoof This Is Spinal Tap ranked at sixth place (7 per cent) on the most bluffed about movies list whilst Francis Ford Coppala's second entry into the top ten comes as Apocalypse Now, starring Marlon Brando and Martin Sheen, bombs into seventh place.
Six per cent of those who voted admitted that they would lie about seeing this classic war flick just to save face.
Another Martin Scorsese film is directed into our poll at number eight. 1990's mobster film Goodfellas is a film that 5 per cent of film fans said they would claim to have seen to impress. Joint eighth was Ridley Scott's futuristic Blade Runner (5 per cent).
The final bluff on our list was 1963's World War Two epic, The Great Escape - a tale of allied prisoners of war plotting an escape from a German war camp.
