Taylor Kitsch

Taylor Kitsch

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been all anyone can talk about this week as the process of casting the new characters for the second instalment have begun.

And while it was revealed that Jena Malone is in talks to play Johanna Mason the studio has been keeping pretty stum as to who they may be chatting to for the role of Finnick Odair.

At the age of fourteen Finnick was triumphant in the arena, using a trident to kill the last tribute.

In Catching Fire he is back in the arena ten years after his first win to do battle once again.

- Taylor Kitsch

Taylor Kitsch was believed to be one of the early front runners for the role but at thirty one he may be a little old for the part.

On the other hand he certainly does have the look that studios would be looking for for this role.

But only this week Kitsch said that he is not really interested in any more green-screen movies and so he may already be out of the running.

- Garrett Hedlund

Garrett Hedlund is another early name that was linked to the part and he would be fantastic for the role.

He is around the right age and has the right look - not to mention he is a great actor who really would be able such a vital role in Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

And while Hedlund has been enjoying movie success over the last couple of years he is still looking for that role that would catapult him onto the A-list... and this could be it.

- Armie Hammer

Armie Hammer is the final of the early favourites and he seems to be a bit of a fave with the fans - personally I think he would be great.

At twenty five he is just a year older than the character in the book, not to mention he is a little easy on the eye.

The actor has enjoyed success with The Social Network, J.Edgar and Mirror Mirror - he is also set to star in The Lone Ranger but it would be great to see him tackle a big budget movie for the very first time.

He has a real presence as an actor and he would be able to handle the real darkness and sadness that exists in this character.

- Zac Efron

Zac Efron has also been getting support from some of The Hunger Games fans as the actor continues to move away from his musical/clean cut image.

This would be the most action packed role of Efron's career so far and perhaps it is the kind of role that he needs to move up the ladder.

However I have reservations about Efron being able to carry this character as he is a major part over the next two movies and a character that comes with plenty of baggage. There's no doubt Efron looks the part but I am not so sure.

- Alex Pettyfer

Another actor who has been getting support from fans is Alex Pettyfer, who is back on the big screen next week with Magic Mike.

He is no stranger to an action role having starred in I Am Number Four and he certainly has the look to pull off this role.

Pettyfer is somewhat of an unknown quantity and I think he could potentially be an ace card if he landed the role.

- Chris Zylka

It seems that Chris Zylka does actually want this role as he wrote on his Twitter page earlier this year 'Okay, finally on the second Hunger Games book, and yes!! I need to play Finnick Odair.' - it seems like he is a bit of a fan.

The twenty seven year old has worked in TV with The Secret Circle and American Horror Story as well as movie such as Piranha 3DD and he has a role in The Amazing Spider Man.

He is yet to really make his breakthrough and the role of Finnick could be perfect for him - and lesser known star may work quite nicely.

Names such as Ian Somerhalder and Ryan Reynolds have been banded around but they are both too old for the role. But the likes of Chase Crawford, Freddie Storma and Jake Abel have been other fan suggestions.

Filming on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set to get underway in September.
