Life Of Pi

Life Of Pi

Life of Pi is the movie that everyone is talking about this week as Oscar winning filmmaker Ang Lee is back in the director's chair.

The main character of Pi Patel finds himself stranded in the Pacific Ocean on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger.

So to celebrate the release of the film we take a look at some of the best tigers that have graced the big screen over the years.

- Shere Khan - The Jungle Book

The greatest tiger to ever star in a movie comes in the form of Shere Khan as Rudyard Kipling's novel The Jungle Book was brought to the big screen by Disney.

It was 1967 when the animation movie was released and yet Shere Khan remains one of the greatest villains in Disney history.

Shere Khan hates humans and so when Mowgli presence in the jungle becomes known to him the young boy becomes a target.

There is a cool, suave and sophisticated side to Khan as he really is king of the jungle.

- Diego - Ice Age

It was back in 2002 when Ice Age hit the big screen and we were introduced to the character of Diego - voiced by Denis Leary - for the first time.

Technically Diego is a Smilodon - which is incorrectly called a saber-tooth tiger but hey who cares?

Despite having ulterior motives for befriending Manny and Sid in the first film he become a loyal member of this rather odd family and is a character that has appeared in all three movies that followed.

Ice Age has gone on to become one of the biggest franchises of the year and Ice Age: Continental Drift is one of the most successful movies of 2012 at the box office.

- Tigress - Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu Panda burst onto the big screen back in 2008 and we were introduced to a whole host of characters including Tigress.

Tigress is the only female to feature in our list as she is one ass-kicking lady as she is the leader of the Furious Five.

Voice by Angelina Jolie Tigress has some mean kung fu skills and she is now a woman to mess with.

While she wasn't too pleased to see Pp the Panda join their ranks she was more accepting of the new comer in the second movie.

- Jacob - Dr Dolittle

It's hard to believe but it was 1998 when Eddie Murphy hit the big screen as Dr Dolittle - a man who has the ability to talk to animals.

One of the animals that comes to Dr Dolittle for help is Jacob, a suicidal tiger.

The character is voiced by the fantastic Albert Brooks and is one of the best moments in the movie as they mix humour with tackling a hard hitting subject.

- Tigger - The Tigger Movie

Tigger is one of the most popular characters from Hundred Acre Wood and he starred in his own movie back in 2000.

The Tigger Movie was the first feature-length theatrical Pooh film to not be a collection of previously released shorts.

The movie follows Tigger as he bounces through Hundred Acre Wood trying to find his family.

Tigger is one of the most energetic of the Pooh characters and that trait continued onto the big screen.
