Timothy Olyphant is back on the big screen the week in a remake of the seventies horror movie The Crazies.

Despite kicking off his career in 1996 it's most recently that the actor has seen his career on the up.

He kicked off his acting career on the stage but it wasn't long before the movies came calling in the middle of the nineties.

The First Wives Club was the big screen debut for the actor, which saw he appear alongside Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler.

It wasn't long before the work steadily flowed in and he went on to appear in Scream 2, Go, Gone In Sixty Seconds and Rock Star.

While he continued to work in movies at the beginning of the noughties like so many actors today he moved into television.

He took on the role of Sheriff Seth Bullock in Western drama Deadwood. The series was set in 1870s Deadwood in South Dakota and follows the growth of Deadwood from camp to a town.

Olyphant stayed with the show for three series before it was cancelled in 2006. Before moving back onto the big screen he appeared in one episode of My Name Is Earl.

But it wasn't long before the bigger roles came along and this was kicked off with Die hard 4.0 in 2007.

The movie was directed by Len Wiseman and saw Bruce Willis return to the role of John McClane but this time around he was battling a very sophisticated enemy in the form of Thomas Gabriel (Olyphant), a internet terrorist.

The movie was both a critical and commercial hit as it went on to gross $383.5 million at the global box office, the most successful film in the franchise.

Hitman was next on the agenda for Olyphant, a big screen version of the hit computer game, in 2007.

However the movie was not a success and was universally panned, despite this a second movie is in the pipeline.

He has since appeared in Stop Loss, The Perfect Getaway before going into TV show Damages.

The Crazies is Olyphant's first movie of 2010 as he stars alongside Radha Mitchell in the Breck Eisner directed film.

The movie follows the inhabitants of a small Iowa town suddenly plagued by insanity and then death after a mysterious toxin contaminates their water supply.

He teams up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Malin Akerman for Elektra Luxx which is released later this year.

The Crazies is out now.
