We are only into the second week of the month and already September has produced a fabulous movie, in the form of District 9, that is one of the top movies of the year.
But it doesn't stop there oh no as FemaleFirst takes a look at some of the movies that you should be watching throughout the rest of this month.
Despite the Oscars being the best part of five months away and no nominations have yet been put forward Meryl Streep is already the favourite to pick up the Best Actress Oscar.
And she returns to the big screen this week in Julie & Julia, which reunites her with her Doubt co-star Amy Adams.
Julia Child and Julie Powell - both of whom wrote memoirs - find their lives intertwined. Though separated by time and space, both women are at loose ends... until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.
Another must see movie this week is Fish Tank, which caused a right old stir at Cannes Film Festival earlier in the year.
It's the second movie from Andrea Arnold, she brought us the critically acclaimed Red Road, and stars the plucked from obscurity Kate Jarvis.
Mia (Katie Jarvis) is a feisty, foul-mouthed 15-year-old schoolgirl living on a sink estate with her mum (Kierston Wareing) and little sister, both of whom she bickers with constantly.
She's been kicked out of school and spends her days practising dance moves and drinking whatever booze she can get hold of in an empty flat in her tower block.
One day, mum brings home a new boyfriend, Connor (Michael Fassbender), a good-looking Irish security guard who immediately takes a shine Mia, complimenting her on her dancing skills and lending her money.
A drive out to the countryside holds the vague promise that a happy family could be forming but the chemistry between Mia and Conner is palpable. Is he merely giving Mia the attention she needs or does Connor have more sinister intentions?
Both Julie & Julia and Fish Tank are released 11th September.
Revolutionary Road did fairly well back at the beginning of the year and September sees the return to the big screen of Oscar winning filmmaker Sam Mendes with Away We Go.
Starring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph the film follows the journey of an expectant couple as they travel the U.S. in search of the perfect place to put down roots and raise their family.
Along the way, they have misadventures and find fresh connections with an assortment of relatives and old friends who just might help them discover home on their own terms for the first time.
Away We Go is released 18th September.
The Soloist was surrounded in Oscar whispers last year but a string of set backs sees the movie released later this month.
It's also a return for Joe Wright, his first movie since the huge success of Atonement, and he brings together an impressive cast of Robert Downey Jr and Jamie Foxx.
Steve Lopez (Downey Jr.) discovers Nathaniel Anthony Ayers (Foxx), a former classical music prodigy, playing his violin on the streets of L.A.
As Lopez endeavours to help the homeless man find his way back, a unique friendship is formed, one that transforms both their lives.
While the film was an early hit with the critics however the set backs could have seriously damaged it's Oscar chances.
The Soloist is released 25th September.
Other movies to keep an eye on this month include Dorian Gray, Creation, Fame, Surrogates and The Firm.
