In Time

In Time

2011 has been a good year for sci-fi movies with a whole host of big named star getting in on some alien actions.

This week is no different as Justin Timberlake, who has had a great movie year, leads the cast in Andrew Niccol’s latest movie In Time.

So to celebrate the release of the movie we take a look at the best sc-fi couple that have graced the big screen in the last twelve months.

- Simon Pegg & Nick Frost (Paul)

Paul still remains one of the best sci-fi movies that graced the big screen this year - full of great characters and barrels of laughs.

The partnership of Pegg and Frost is the only none romantic couple to make the list the pair teamed up for the first time since Hot Fuzz.

As you might imagine the pair banter well together and are perfect as Clive and Graeme who get a little more than what they bargained for on their alien hotspot road trip - it’s a natural relationship with some great chemistry.

That relationship is put under some strain when they meet Paul - voiced by the absolutely superb Seth Rogen.

- Alex Pettyer & Dianna Argon (I Am Number Four)

When I Am Number Four hit the big screen back in February the central relationship between Alex and Dianna was being tipped to be the new Bella & Edward.

While this central partnership didn’t quite reach the dizzy heights of Twilight it is one that worked incredibly well in the movie.

The central relationship of John and Sarah that really makes this movie work as well as pushes the storyline forward.

There is obvious chemistry between the pair as they both struggle with their high school days but finds in each other someone that they can trust.

- Matt Damon & Emily Blunt (The Adjustment Bureau)

The George Nolfi directed movie remains my favourite sci-fi project of 2011 as the movie boasts a great script as well as superb performances from a very talented cast.

The Adjustment Bureau is a great love story with a bond between David and Elise that is so strong that they are willing to risk everything for each other.

It's this relationship and their willingness to go against the 'plan' for one another that makes the story work.

The pair banter well together throughout the film and there is a genuine connection between the pair that never seems fake or forced.

You find yourself rooting for them, to succeed and be together against all the odds - always a good sign that an on screen relationship works.

- Joel Courtney & Elle Fanning (Super 8)

It’s been a while since we had seen a J.J. Abrams directed movie on the big screen until he returned this summer with the highly anticipated Super 8 - which proved to be one of the best movies of the year.

Abrams risked a lot giving the central roles to young an inexperienced actors - but the young cast that were assembled were nothing short of superb.

Joel Courtney is a very engaging lead character as he struggles to cope with the death of his mother. It’s a very innocent relationship that develops between Joe and Alice - which is a real breathe of fresh air to this genre of movie.

- Justin Timberlake & Amanda Seyfried (In Time)

Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it.

The rich 'earn' decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day.

When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage.

Living minute to minute, the duo’s love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.

In Time is out now
