Everyone has heard that famous saying women love a man in uniform. And this week it's the military uniform that is under the spotlight.
The Hurt Locker is an intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat.
When a new sergeant, James (Jeremy Renner), takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge (Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty), by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat.
James behaves as if he’s indifferent to death. As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James’ true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever.
Of course you can't talk about characters in uniforms without talking about Richard Gere in An Officer and a Gentleman.
Afraid that he will follow in his drunken father's footsteps Zachary "Zack" Mayo signs up for the U.S. Navy where he is put through his dirty and sweaty paces by his drill sergeant.
But a bit of hair gel, a clean shave and a naval uniform worked wonders in turning this rebel into a hunk, and his romantic portrayal along with some steamy sex scenes set alight to fantasies of the female nation.
Over the years some of Hollywood's biggest names have donned a uniform in some shape or form and today FemaleFirst takes a look at some of the best.
War movie have always been a big part of cinema and string of high profile actors who have taken on these roles, and that means getting kited out in the full combat gear.
In recent times the likes of Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson, Jamie Foxx, Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Phillipe have taken on the war movie in films such as Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, Jarhead and Stop Loss.

It was a change of pace for James McAvoy as he became a bone fide leading man with his performance in Atonement, hard to believe just a few years a go he was in shameless.
McAvoy takes on the role of Robbie Turner who is falsely accused of raping the cousin of the woman that he is in love with and is sent to prison.
But Robbie is released into the ranks of the army during the Second World War cue the uniform, needless to say the Americans fell in love with him!

By 1994 Keanu Reeves has crept onto everyone's radar known for comedies and the drama Point Break. Despite this early success his casting In Speed was somewhat controversial as it was the first movie he had headlined.
Reeves played police officer Jack Traven and that meant, for all too brief a moment a police uniform. Of course the film was a huge commercial success and Reeves was suddenly on the A-List and girls everywhere were in love with him.
In 2008 he got out the old police uniform for a second time dusting it off for his role in Street Kings.

And not to be outdone a fireman's uniform has appeared on the big screen from time to time. Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta took on the role on Ladder 49.
But Backdraft still remains the movie famous firefighter movie, released back in 1991 with Kurt Russell leading the cast of William Baldwin, Robert De Niro and Scott Glenn.
