Up's Oscar chances were given a real boost at the weekend by taking home the top prize at the Annie Awards.

The latest Pixar picture has become just the second animation movie to find itself nominated for Best Picture at this year's Oscars and is the favourite to win Best Animated Feature.

The Annie Awards celebrate everything animation and Up saw off tough competition from Coraline, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Princess And The Frog and The Secret of Kells.

Up was the best animation movie of 2009 it’s vivid and bright and has been crafted with obvious care.

But it’s a story that is set in reality and something that many people in the audience can identify with. But what’s also great about this movie is it tells us that it is never too late to achieve your dream.

So often movies have a young a central character going off on these amazing adventures it’s so nice to see Pixar break that mould.

Up also won the award for Best Director for Pete Docter's work on the movie that dominated the box office last year.

It was also a good night for The Princess And The Frog as the film walked away with Animated Effects, Character Animation in a Feature Production and Voice Acting in a Feature Production for Jen Cody.
