Mirror Mirror

Today sees us march into the top three in our Worst Movies of 2012 countdown and we are getting ever closer to find out which movie will top the list.

2012 has seen two Snow White movies hit the big screen one was a triumph... the other not so much.

Sadly Tarsem Singh's take on the popular tale was way off the mark and Mirror Mirror is in at number three in our countdown.

The Queen (Roberts) schemes and scrambles for control of a spirited orphan Snow White's (Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (Hammer).

When Snow White’s beauty wins the heart of the prince that she desperately pursues, the Queen banishes her to the forest, where a ravening man-eating beast hungrily awaits.

Rescued by a band of diminutive highway robbers, Snow White grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen.

Honestly this is one of the dullest movies of the year - which did come as a bit of a surprise.

Singh almost sleepwalks his way through the telling of this tale and you get the feel that he is just the wrong director for this story.

The screenplay and Singh's directorial style just don't go hand in hand and so the story seems laboured and just plods along.

No matter which way you look at Snow White is a dark fairytale and the colour, splendour and lavishness just don't fit with the tale. Now I am all for trying something new but this just doesn't work.

Julia Roberts is perhaps the only saving grace of this film as she has all the best scenes and the best lines.

The fact that the Queen sees herself in a magic mirror is quite a nice touch but all of those scenes really are quite confusing, not well explained and totally unnecessary.

Sadly this movie really does reflect quite badly on everyone involved - the cast to their best with what they have been given but that is not very much.

Singh has tried to put a new spin on this well known tale and he must be applauded for that but he really hasn't pulled it off.

If you want to see a great telling of Snow White that is different to the tale we are use to then check out Snow White and the Huntsman.
