It's hard to believe that the turn of the century and the fear of the Millennium Bug, which never raised it's ugly head, happened almost ten years ago.

In those almost ten years cinema has provided us with some real movie treats with the likes of Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Finding Nemo and Slumdog Millionaire... but they have also provided is with some real stinkers too.

Yes you have got to take the bad with the good, and Jesus there has been some total rubbish you really have to wonder who looks at the script and thinks 'yes this will make a great movie.'

So to celebrate all that is bad of the last few years we take a look at some of the worst movies that have made it to the big screen since the turn of the century.

Strange Wilderness (2008)

With the ratings dropping for a wilderness-themed TV show, two animal fans go to the Andes in search of Bigfoot led by Steve Zahn.

With the comedic talent that is loaded into the film, namely Steve Zahn, Justin Long and Jonah Hill, this film should have been a laugh a minute comedy but even they cannot do anything with such weak material which leaves you wondering what the hell were they thinking?

In all this film is truly awful as it slunk in and out of cinemas without even a trace as you will squirm in your seat with embarrassment, that's if you make it further than the first fifteen minutes... if you do bravo to you.

Derailed (2005)

There were few redeeming points about this movie, except maybe Clive Owen giving us something good to look at.

Jennifer Aniston was trying to establish herself as a serious actress after Friends and god knows what Owen was doing when he agreed to this one, I mean what was he thinking?

Derailed was supposed to be suspense filled thriller that showed Owen's character as he tries to hide his affair whilst protect his lover and himself but the whole thing just descends into farce and you are left caring very little for the characters that are before you.

Battlefield Earth (2000)

It's fair to say that John Travolta has had an up and down career and it's safe to say that Battlefield Earth is a major down.

An adaptation of L. Ron Hubbard's novel very little goes right for the movie with acting and direction that's rubbish, a paper thin script and pace that's up and down, it's just a very bad version of sci fi movies that have gone before it.

The project had always been plagued with problems as Travolta tried for years to get a studio to back the film and get it off the ground.

Independent production company Franchise Pictures eventually took on the film and Travolta contributed millions of his own money as funding.

With a budget of $75 million it became one of the most expensive flops grossing just under $30 million at the global box office.

Gigli (2003)

This movie just goes to show that people who are in a relationship really shouldn't work together as nine times of ten it really doesn't work, this being a spectacular example.

This movie's plot is pointless and totally baffling and I think the least said about it the better.

My Bloody Valentine (2009)

It seems that 3-D movies are well and truly here to stay with the release of My Bloody Valentine 3-D however no amount of technology or special effects can save this movie.

Hollywood cannot get enough of the horror slasher movie with old favourite constantly getting re-hashed. And while this isn't a remake, it's heavily influenced by Halloween, it offers absolutely nothing original.

There's no characterisation whatsoever and you are just left with a bunch of people that you don't care anything for and get wait for them all to kick the bucket

Hostel (2006)

Along with Saw, which is equally awful, Hostel kicked off the latest horror movie trend of torture; let's see how many painful and disgusting ways we can kill a person in the name of entertainment.

The be all and end of these movies is they are totally rubbish, there's not a single redeeming feature about this movie, and it's hard to believe that a sequel was given the green light, exactly the same thing just killing girls instead of boys oh please.

Date Movie/ Epic Movie

As well as the movies described above the spoof movie seems to be the way to make a quick buck in Hollywood at the moment as this drivel is being released by the bucket load.

Now Scary Movie was funny when it was first released as it was something that fresh, new and completely different. But that's where it should have ended we didn't need the hundred sequels that followed along with the rest of the rubbish.

We have also had to suffer the likes of Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans that give washed up actors five minutes of fame... believe me if we don't go to see them they will just go away.

Catwoman (2004)

After the likes of X-men and Spiderman had been massive hits at the box office in 2004 DC Comic character Catwoman got the big screen treatment.

Before the film was even released there were issues surrounding the central character of Catwoman, in the original comics she was a normal, highly trained woman with no superhuman powers, who they depicted as a woman with feline superpowers.

The film had a budget of $100 million and made just over $82 million and was not received well critically.

You can see why Halle Berry wanted to cash in on the big budget blockbuster movie, as so many have been a huge success, but you really should read the script first.

Swept Away (2002)

Why singer feel the need to try their hand at acting is anyone's guess but over the years some of the biggest names in music have moved onto the big screen.

But after being panned in the terrible Body of Evidence you really would think that Madonna who have given up this acting lark.

But no she thought she would make another awful movie in the form of Swept Away. To say that the acting was bad would be a major understatement but you really have to ask yourself Guy what were you thinking?

This movie could have well and truly killed the British filmmakers career but luckily for him he has managed to bounce back from this car crash.

Other movies that have made us cringe with embarrassment at their badness over the last few years include Daddy Day Camp, The Hottie and the Nottie, Management, Big Momma's House 2, Wild Wild West, Charlie's Angels (both of them), Glitter Basic Instinct 2... I really could go on.
